Peter Soukas, MD

Dr. Peter Soukas is an interventional cardiologist and endovascular specialist certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in Cardiovascular disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is also certified in Vascular and Endovascular medicine by the American Board of Vascular Medicine and is a certified Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. Dr. Soukas’ clinical research interests include carotid stenting and the interventional treatment of peripheral vascular disease. He is a recognized expert on the interventional treatment of critical limb ischemia and endovascular treatment of both arterial and venous disease. 

A graduate of Boston College, Dr. Soukas earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, and completed an internal medicine residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He completed cardiology and peripheral vascular medicine fellowships at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Boston, MA, then affiliated with Tufts University, followed by an interventional cardiology fellowship at University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. He joined the Brown University faculty in 2010. Previously, he served at the Director of Vascular Medicine and was the Vascular Fellowship Director at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston, MA, and held academic appointments at Tufts University, Yale University, and Allegheny University of the Health Sciences. 

Dr. Soukas has been a site principal investigator on more than 27 trials in the field of carotid stenting. He was the leading New England enroller in the NINDS-sponsored landmark CREST Trial. He’s been a site principal investigator on more than 150 endovascular trials and was the Global PI for the RELINE MAX trial of covered stenting for the treatment of in-stent restenosis. He is the co-national PI for the upcoming Shockwave IVL carotid stent trial. 

A frequent speaker, Dr. Soukas has delivered more than 300 invited lectures nationally and internationally and is a reviewer for several cardiovascular journals. He has served as faculty at many national and international scientific meetings. Passionate about teaching, he is the founder and program director for the Brown Vascular & Endovascular Medicine Fellowship program. Dr. Soukas is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions, the Society of Vascular Medicine, and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and the Rhode Island Medical Society.
